There could have been worse weeks for Nikki Bella to be voted off Dancing With the Stars’ ballroom floor. After lasting nearly two months into ABC stalwart’s 25th season, Nikki and her partner Artem Chigvintsev took their final bows the night before Halloween. But her fall was cushioned by, appropriately, twin accomplishments: the subsequent launch of her and sister Brie’s Birdiebee apparel brand and the season-seven premiere of Total Divas, on which she and Brie hold court as the show’s elder stateswomen.

Amid one of the more hectic few days of her professional career, the 33-year-old multi-time WWE Women’s champion (including a stint as longest-ever reigning Divas title holder) slowed down to discuss her multi-front pop-culture assault, supporting women who take a stand and all that IWC gossip about her taking over for brother-in-law Daniel Bryan as SmackDown GM.

Has this week been the most chaotic of your career?

It would have been if I was still on Dancing With the Stars, but even launching Birdiebee and promoting Total Divas and coming off of Total Bellas, it’s definitely one of the busiest weeks?

Was there measure of relief that you could pivot from DWTS and focus on everything else?

Actually, no. Because I’m so fortunate to have Brie and be in all these ventures with her, I really wanted to keep on dancing. I’m still a little bit in shock and sad, but I was having a lot of fun.

How does the fatigue of DWTS compare to that amount of time on a WWE tour?
I’ll admit: My body has not ever felt so sore and in so much pain. It was the hardest thing I’ve ever put my body through. Even last week, learning the jive, I felt like I was getting shin splints and needed knee replacements. I was like, “Oh my god, this is crazy.”

Where once the Miz was mocked for coming from reality TV, wrestlers’ recent reality appearances have legitimized sports entertainment. What changed?
Total Divas I feel like is the foundation of that, because it broke through that mainstream wall. When you appreciate that, people were like, “Oh, I wanna check out this show GLOW.” It opened up those doors more where mainstream people wanted to see what we were doing.

And I reality is also more mainstream, and wrestling fans are more pragmatic.
Yes, and in our world, we’ve evolved in breaking kayfabe. Because we’ve grown from that, it’s also been accepted that, “OK, we can see who they really are beyond the ring.”

For the benefit of the H8RZ who believe that no one watches wrestling shows that take place out of the ring, Total Divas is here to school you for its seventh season (seventh!).

There are a few things that make Total Divas (and Total Bellas) different from other wrestling shows, but the biggest difference, of course, is that the stars of the show use their real names, not their ring names. It’s the reason that, for example, Daniel Bryan was referred to as “Bryan” throughout the episodes of Total Bellas this past season, and why Carmella (for example) will be referred to as “Leah.”

Our girl Nikki Bella, fresh off her ignoble exit from Dancing with the Stars (she was robbed, ROBBED we tell you!), will now serve as the executive producer of the hit E! show, because GET MONEY, NIKKI.

In the next Total Divas segment, Brie is playing with baby Birdie — who is the spitting image of her father, Daniel Bryan. We see a preview of Winston’s butt — whom, you will recall from this past season of Total Bellas, was the subject of a much-contested Puppy Custody battle between Brie and her twin sister, Nikki — and Bryan, who comes in and volunteers that he’ll be able to change baby Birdie if needed. Brie tells us that Bryan has received paternity leave, which she finds to be remarkable (even though many larger companies, today, offer fathers paternity leave in the same way they offer mothers maternity leave).

Ultimately, it’s Nikki who ends up feeding her niece, which is the perfect segue into her Total Divas segment, where she talks about her neck, her back, and…her engagement. (Was your mind in the gutter again?)

Nikki thinks that she would be a good substitute as GM on SmackDown, especially since Bryan is out on paternity leave, and especially since she can’t participate in the Money in the Bank ladder match.

Back in the Bella house, the Danielson family is having a nice family moment when Bryan springs on Brie that he has to go to Toronto for work. Needless to say, Brie takes it as well as you think she would, but eventually accepts that “she’s got it” because Bryan gave her the confidence as a mother to feel as such.

A week before Money in the Bank, Nikki has a pre-event pool party (which is really hilarious to watch, considering how, outside of Total Divas, these women tear each other’s hair out — usually, reality shows are the other way around, in that real life is very fun, while the show is exaggeratingly dramatic, but that’s what makes this show fun).

Nikki and Nattie give Lana the best advice they have — with Nikki recalling her WrestleMania win — while also reminding Rusev that she’s not going to do anything that makes her hurt herself.

The moment Kurt Angle was cleared by WWE doctors to wrestle at TLC, everyone in the pro wrestling community slowly turned their heads in the direction of Daniel Bryan.

If one onscreen WWE authority figure, with a history of neck injuries and concussions, can be cleared to wrestle than why not the other?

With maybe the only hurdle left to clear being a WWE’s doctor’s seal of approval, according to Brie Bella the SmackDown GM has been doing everything in his power to try and get back in the ring.

In interview today (Oct. 30) with SiriusXM Busted Open, Bella spoke about her husband’s desire for another pro wrestling run.

Listen again and hear Brie Bella’s tone when host David LaGreca brings up if Kurt Angle’s return has increased Daniel Bryan’s desire to make a comeback.

Maybe not a question of if but when Bryan returns to the squared circle, will it be with the WWE or another company?

Welcome boys and ghouls to Halloween Night on Dancing With the Stars, the evening when you come for the Halloween-themed dance routines but stay for the extraordinary amount of Halloween puns and also Sasha Farber scaring the crap out of people.

What fun! Even more fun: our first round of team dances, in which the team score will be added to each couple’s total score. There’s lots to cover, including a legitimately surprising elimination, so let’s dance.

Nikki Bella and Artem Chigvintsev
Jive, “I Put a Spell on You” by Bette Midler
You guys, I’ve never trusted the “secret menu” at Starbucks, and after watching Nikki-as-a-witch serve Artem-as-a-coffee-drinker some witchy brew from “Spellbucks” during their jive, I feel very vindicated. Menus are menus for a reason! Anyway, Nikki and Artem may be having fun together in rehearsals, but it doesn’t exactly translate to a showstopper on the dance floor. Their jive is serviceable, but the judges want more oomph. The footwork is clean for most of it, but there a few mistakes that seem to rattle Nikki and zap some of the energy from the routine. Nikki and Artem’s partnership is top notch, but this routine, not so much.
Judges’ Score: 24/30

TEAM ROUND

Team Monster Mash (Jordan and Lindsay, Lindsey and Mark, Nikki and Artem, Terrell and Cheryl)
With the two frontrunners and Mark Ballas dressed head to toe as a creepy scarecrow, Team Monster Mash is the team to beat. Unfortunately, the team seems to bite off more Halloween candy than it can chew. The concept is cute — the celebs are lost in a corn maze full of scary monsters and Artem’s abs wearing a hockey mask — but much of the technique is sacrificed for big production value. Their individual sequences are good, but anytime they come together as a group, things are out of sync. It’s charming but hectic, and you know how much Len dislikes hectic. Everyone is underwhelmed.
Judges’ Score: 24/30

After all the spookiness in the ballroom, now comes time for the really scary part: elimination. Four couples find themselves in jeopardy: Terrell and Cheryl, Nikki and Artem, Drew and Emma, and Vanessa and Maks.

Terrell and Cheryl and Drew and Emma are sent to safety…and both Nikki and Artem and Vanessa and Maks are eliminated. Surprise! Inside your pillow case of candy is a big steaming pile of double elimination. Ugh. Halloween is the worst.
